Frieda Gossett / Bio
Although Frieda Gossett’s subjects are meant to take flight, they are rendered in an unexpected medium: vegetable-tanned leather. Birds are her predominant subjects, but she has also found inspiration in insects, koi kites, clocks, scooters, and vintage airplanes. By using a material typically used for shoes, jackets and couches to render these pieces, Frieda hopes to surprise the viewer by transforming leather into graceful, often humorous, art.
